I think you're on to something - our culture believes that love with no strings attached is the answer to any pain love usually causes.

Yes, that sounds like something C.S. Lewis would say...

Going back to what you said...loving with no strings attached is painful. But there are times when I believe we ask for that pain by being selfish and giving ourselves in relationships that we don't need to be in yet. It reminds me of Ecclesiastes-there is a time for everything, a purpose for everything under the sun.

At the same time, when we love someone and get hurt, we can learn much about who our heavenly Father is, as well as having the reminder that life here on earth is very temporal. "The things we see now are only temporary. The things we cannot see are eternal." (Or something like that...I read it last night in the Bible.) God loves US unconditionally, yet we treat Him like dirt. That has got to hurt. And yet He keeps loving us...we have SO MUCH to learn from Him! Fortunately, He has given us a little time to learn some of it on earth. Hooray!Allegrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13835592075776262704noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16816094.post-90777667071201589602007-07-15T22:59:00.000-06:002007-07-15T22:59:00.000-06:00Wasn't it CS Lewis who said, "If you want to love,...Wasn't it CS Lewis who said, "If you want to love, you have to accept pain. It's part of the deal"? And yet the pain is not the result of strings attached; it's actually the result of no strings being attached. You feel pain when someone you love is hurt, or when a relationship is injured, because you offered your "deep affection" and commitment without any strings, without any reservations, with the willingness to take whatever pain came with the package.

Of course you don't want to live alone. Who would? I think that it takes an extremely atomized culture (like ours) to even be able to find people who can stand living without the bustle and wonder of other people around them. And really, it's important to have people of other ages than you.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16816094.post-83275047045934097602007-07-15T19:42:00.000-06:002007-07-15T19:42:00.000-06:00Random? It's all that homeschooledness...or something. :D

Yeah, you're probably right - love doesn't care about the strings. But what happens when strings get caught up and torn up and there's not many left? (Don't answer that.) Let me, and then I'm going to drop it: trust is much more difficult when strings have been torn, chewed up, etc. It's a little more difficult to let them attach, or to do so without cynicism and/or lack of trust. Now I'm done. :PAllegrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13835592075776262704noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16816094.post-86536796429170779242007-07-14T14:38:00.000-06:002007-07-14T14:38:00.000-06:00Hehe. I have to turn talk radio on or play music the whole time just to think straight.

Love.........wow. According to American Heritage (you had to know that was coming :P), love is "an intense feeling of deep affection" or "a deep emotional or sexual attachment." So under that definition, "love with no strings attached" could be possible, but I doubt it highly. I'm reminded of a Michael W Smith song where it goes "love isn't love until you give it away." So in that sense, their is love with no strings attached because you don't care about the stings.

I'm gonna have to think about it. ;-)Dakotahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13926688042041730524noreply@blogger.com
